My childhood was spent in rural New England where I learned to love nature’s exuberance. I am painting my remembered experiences of nature and the natural world. Artworks evolve over time with additions and subtractions of colors and textures. My painting process involves integral connections of music, meditations, intuition, gestured brush strokes and the gradual refining of shapes and colors to essential patterns, forms, and color juxtapositions. Texture is created through gestured brush strokes and scratching back into layers of paint or adding white tissue paper or other materials to the canvas and then layering paint over the material. There is a rhythm of color masses and brush strokes that my be discerned in the paintings reflecting musical favorites which include popular music as well as opera choruses and arias and classical music.
